Meridian and Center Township scored victories as the Butler Area Midget Football League began its varsity season Saturday at Memorial Park.
Meridian 18, East Butler 14 — Reid Werth scored on a 39-yard run to cap Meridian's first possession. East Butler took an 8-6 lead before Jeremy Moorhead scored on a 2-yard run and Werth scored on a 24-yard jaunt for the Raiders.East Butler closed the gap late in the contest as Tristan Patterson scored on a 4-yard pass on a fourth-and-goal play.
Center Township 24, Butler City 14 — Lucas Dubyak opened the scoring for CT on a 37-yard run. The score remained 6-0 at halftime.Dubyak scored on a 26-yard run and Tim Vernick crossed the goal line from 5 yards out for an 18-0 lead through three quarters. Damien Pickett scored for Butler City in the fourth quarter and Brandon Hildebrand converted the PAT.Gab Baroffio tossed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jared Hinkle to widen CT's lead to 24-8 before Butler City's Joseph Rudolph concluded the scoring with a 64-yard run.
