Dream game is here
EAST BUTLER — The East Butler 12-year-old Little League All-Star baseball team has waited two years for this.
The squad will face DuBois at 6 p.m. today at Meadville for the Section 1 title.
A win will leave East Butler as one of eight teams remaining in the Pennsylvania tournament.
The team hasn't lost in the double-elimination tournament, meaning a defeat tonight would set up a Tuesday rematch with DuBois.
"Two years ago, we had pretty much the same team play DuBois in sectionals at the 10-year-old level and they beat us 1-0," said East Butler manager Russ Scott. "They have most of their kids back on the 12-year-old team, too."
The Section 1 Tournament, which will played at the Crawford County Fairgrounds Field Complex, began Friday.
East Butler knocked off Meadville 3-2, then beat Millcreek 5-4 in seven innings Saturday to claim the king's seat.
No team has been able to beat East Butler this summer. Including the District 25 Tournament, the squad is a perfect 6-0.
District victoies included wins over KRE (Knox-Rimersburg-Emlenton), Franklin and Oil City, before today's title game against an old foe.
East Butler beat Butler Township 17-13 in the district final in seven innings July 5, with the former smacking seven home runs in the victory.
But, as Scott explains, pitching is the most important part of any team this time of the year.
"We're a pretty balanced team, but pitching is carrying us," he said. "With the rule that if a kid throws 20 pitches, he can't throw the next day, you better have some depth."
