Anita K. Cratty, 90, of Slippery Rock Township died at 12:36 a.m. Tuesday at her home.

Born in Coaltown, Cherry Township, Feb. 20, 1920, she was the daughter of Jesse Daniel Kiester and Frances Lorene Stitt Kiester.

She married George Wayne Cratty on Dec. 25, 1943, at The Keister House. He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 2005.

Mrs. Cratty was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Slippery Rock Branch. She was district primary president, Branch Relief Society president, Branch Primary president and a teacher in primary and Sunday School. She served with her husband in the Kittanning Branch for several years. She also did many musical activities and road shows.

Mrs. Cratty first started teaching at the Franklin Township Dick School. She was there from 1940 until 1942 and had taught all eight grades. She then taught at Mars Elementary from 1942 through 1944. She taught special needs children briefly from 1962 until 1963 and then returned to teaching third grade in 1966, where she taught at the laboratory school at Slippery Rock University until 1972. She concluded her teaching career at Har-Mer Elementary School, Harrisville, working from 1972 until her retirement in 1984.

Surviving are three daughters, Gayle C. Crawford of Slippery Rock, Kay E. (Terry) McDonald of Hurricane, Utah, and Vauna J. (Randy) Walker of Pingree, Idaho; a daughter-in-law, Kathy A. Cratty of Slippery Rock; two sisters, Donna K. Gibson of Butler and Frances L. (Bohn) Bales of Lehi, Utah; and a brother, Dr. Winfield Scott (Jan) Kiester of Granger, Ind. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Cratty in 1988; two brothers, Jesse Daniel and David Eugene Kiester; and two sisters, one of whom was an infant sister, Carol and Doris Lorene Kiester Moore.

<B>CRATTY</B> — Visitation for Anita K. Cratty, who died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, will be received from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with President Craig Udy, president of the Slippery Rock Branch, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, officiating. Interment will be at New Hope Cemetery, near Branchton.
