Rick Sell has been named chief operating officer for Solution Matrix Inc.
SMI makes cold therapy products and services for hospitals and outpatient surgery centers.
Sell comes to SMI from GE Capital, where he was senior vice president of originations, and PPM Finance, where he was vice president of marketing.
At SMI in Butler, Sell will be responsible for managing all corporate activities including sales and marketing; production and manufacturing; finance and accounting; and human resources.
Sell graduated from York College of Pennsylvania with an accounting degree and has more than 30 years of experience in finance and business operations.
BUTLER TWP — The Visiting Nurses Association of Western Pennsylvania has received the first distinction of "Best Practices in Home Care and Hospice" by the Pennsylvania Homecare Association, PHA, the state trade association that represents in-home health, hospice and personal care providers statewide.The VNA received the distinction at an awards ceremony attended by more than 200 peers and state officials on May 13 during PHA's annual conference in Harrisburg."This award recognizes the VNA for implementing Best Practices in Community Outreach & Advocacy for a family caregiver program we developed called, "Taking Charge: A program to empower family caregivers," said Kristy Wright, VNA president and CEO.Family caregivers frequently suffer from stress-related health problems. Under the direction of Jolene Formaini and Cindy Buyers, the VNA set out to develop a program to help them cope with the added burden of caring for a loved one.<B><I> </B></I>The program was developed to educate and support caregivers, mitigate the effects of stress, and optimize the ability of family caregivers to provide care.

WARREN — Music played and confetti flew as a vintage 1940 armored car delivered the J.D. Power and Associates trophy to officials of Northwest Savings Bank Thursday.More than 700 employees attended the event."We ranked highest in customer satisfaction with retail banking in the Mid-Atlantic Region according to the J.D. The office is staffed by specialists on high-risk pregnancies.Maternal-fetal medicine consultation, genetic counseling and ultrasound services will be available at the new site.Perinatologists Drs. Ronald Thomas, Steven Golde, Jennifer Celebrezze, and Ashi Daftary, are now seeing patients at 100 North Pointe Circle, Suite 103, Seven Fields, near Cranberry Township.Thomas is director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine for West Penn Allegheny Health System.
