Marriott touts 1Q profit
CHICAGO — Hotel operator Marriott International says it made a first-quarter profit, reversing a $23 million loss last year.
The company that owns Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels says it earned $83 million, or 22 cents per share, for the three months that ended in March.
After excluding last year's one-time items, Marriott's adjusted profit slipped 5 percent in the most recent quarter. Still, revenue climbed 5 percent to $2.63 billion.
A key performance measure called revenue per available room slipped 0.7 percent around the globe. Thursday's results were better than Wall Street forecasts.
Marriott is based in Bethesda, Md.
