Edna Amelia Batcher

Edna Amelia Zitzman Batcher, 85, of Saxonburg died peacefully at her son's home in West Chester, Pa., on Good Friday, April 10.

She was the daughter of the late Constable Oscar Zitzman and Laura Beckman Zitzman.

She is survived by her son, Joseph A. Batcher III of West Chester, and her brother, Albert Zitzman of Rimersburg.

Edna was preceded in death by her brothers, Fred, Frank and Raymond Zitzman; and her best friend from childhood, Erla Bachman Felsing.

She was known affectionately as "Aunt Sis" by her many nieces and nephews and their children.

Born July 5, 1923, in Saxonburg at her grandmother Beckman's home on Water Street near Roebling Park, she lived most of her life at her home on Rebecca Street near the firemen's pond. She loved Saxonburg and was proud of her hometown roots.

Edna was the widow of Bud Batcher, who died Sept. 3, 1983. While he served in Europe during World War II, she worked at the Armco Steel Corp. along with many other Butler County women. After her husband returned from service, Edna was an active partner with him in Batcher's Trucking in Saxonburg, Batcher's Tavern in Jefferson Township and Batcher's Boron in Cheswick.

<B>BATCHER</B> — A service for Edna Amelia Zitzman Batcher, who died Friday, April 10, 2009, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, at the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church. Edna will be buried alongside her husband at the Saxonburg Cemetery.
