George Elmer Dunkel
George Elmer Dunkel, 86, of Slippery Rock passed away at 9:20 a.m. Thursday at VA Butler Healthcare after a battle with cancer.
He was born May 27, 1923, in Parkers Landing, the son of the late Charles Henry Dunkel and the late Beulah (Parker) Dunkel Reed.
He was a member of the U.S. Navy having served in World War II.
He was a member of the Muddycreek United Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed playing and listening to music.
He was a retired machinist and had worked at Pullman Standard, the Wise Machine Co., Butler Stamping, the A-Penn Oil Co. and Teller Engineering.
Surviving are one daughter, Diana Hall of Butler; one son, George Edward and Sherri Dunkel of Butler; three grandsons, Trevor John Dunkel of Butler, the Rev. Ronald L. Hall of Muncy and John Dewayne Hall of Grand Rapids, Mich.; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Genevieve) Early of Hilliards and Mrs. Arnold (Laurene) Bowser of Parker and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Garland, Daryl and William Dunkel.
<B>DUNKEL</B> — Friends of George Elmer Dunkel, who died Thursday, June 4, 2009, will be received at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St. until the time of service at noon with his pastor, the Rev. Matt Kail, officiating. Military honors will be at the grave site by the VFW and the American Legion.
