2 area GM dealers to stay open

Two General Motors car dealers in the Butler County area said they will continue to be in the car business.

Tom Henry Jr., owner of Tom Henry Chevrolet on Route 8 in Bakerstown, Allegheny County, said his dealership confirmed with its GM representative that the dealership is in good standing with the company.

Henry's father, Tom Henry, opened the dealership 51 years ago.

Mike Kelly, owner of Kelly Chevrolet, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, also was told there would be no disruption of his dealership on Route 8 in Penn Township.

On Friday, GM sent letters to hundreds of dealerships that sell Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chevy, Saturn, Hummer, GMC and Saab.

Those letters stated GM would end those dealerships as part of a plan to eliminate 1,100 dealers by December 2010.

This move to close dealerships is one way GM is reducing costs.
