Elaine F. Seth
Elaine F. Seth, 53, of Wendells Lane, Butler, passed away Wednesday at her home, ending her two-year struggle with ovarian cancer. She was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, companion and dear friend to all who knew her.
Born Oct. 4, 1955, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Wendell and Ruth (Gallagher) Smith.
Elaine is survived by her fiancé and best friend, Jack Lewis of Butler; and her beloved son, Joshua Seth and daughter-in-law Cassandra, and two cherished grandchildren, Brycen Joseph and Arianna Layne Seth, all of Butler. Also surviving are her brother, Marlin Smith and his wife, Susan; and five sisters: Phyllis Ness and her husband, Dennis, Joan Black and her husband, Michael, and Luella Gallagher, and her husband, Donald, all of Butler; Barbara Tiche of Petrolia and Charlene Venesky and her husband, Joseph, of Boyers; as well as 13 beloved nieces and nephews.
A lifetime member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and a graduate of Butler High School, Elaine received her associate degree in nursing from Butler County Community College. She worked as a registered nurse at Butler Memorial Hospital in 5-Main, then in the drug and alcohol unit.
Continuing her education while working, she attended Slippery Rock University, graduating with a bachelor of science in nursing in May 1990.
From 1994 to 2002, Elaine was the coordinator of outpatient mental health services for Family Services of Butler Memorial Hospital.
In August 1997, she accomplished her master of arts in counseling, specializing in children and youth. Elaine became the director of mental health services at the Center for Community Resources in 2002 when the agency was created. She also counseled in private practice. She was a respected colleague in the mental health field and a professional as well as personal mentor to many.
Elaine actively enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, camping, motorcycle riding and long walks around the family farm. She also enjoyed painting, stained glass and card club.
Elaine treasured the joys of friendship and the love of family. She will be remembered as a constant source of strength and inspiration for years to come.
<B>SETH</B> — Friends of Elaine F. Seth, who died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday from St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.The St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 a.m. Monday at the church to recite the rosary.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, 1331 E.
