The Slippery Rock University baseball team wrapped up the regular season with 8-7 and 10-5 victories over Wheeling Jesuit Monday.
Matt Adams singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 1 while the second game was called after 4Z\x innings because of a power failure.
Adams had four hits and four RBI total in the two games, including a solo home run that tied Game 1 at 7-all before he lined his game-winning single.
Rich Michalek added three RBI in Game 1, while in Game 2, Derek Diruscia had three of The Rock's 10 hits. Michalek and Adams added two hits and one RBI each.
SRU (36-14) will open PSAC Tournament play at 3:30 p.m. next Monday against PSAC East runner-up Kutztown (32-14) at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster.
The Rock split its final league twinbill Saturday at Clarion, allowing four unearned runs in an 8-4 loss in Game 1 before recording a 15-2 triumph in the nightcap.
Freshman right fielder Matt Kosik hit his sixth home run of the season and had five RBI in the second game. Diruscia had two hits and three RBI, Adams had two hits and two RBI.
Slippery Rock High graduate Billy Messer had two hits and two RBI in Game 1, but Clarion took the lead for good on a grand slam by Adam Foltz in the second inning.
Junior right-hander Vince Lloyd (7-1) allowed one unearned run in six innings in Game 2.
Joeri Moerman broke the SRU record in the 400 meters at the Red Flash Open at St. Francis (Pa.) University Saturday.Moerman ran the event in 47.64 seconds, snapping the previous mark of 47.66 set by Mack Danzey in 1989. Moerman also won the 200 meters.Women's Track and FieldFreeport graduate Lacey Cochran won all four her events at the Red Flash Open.Cochran ran a leg of the 400 and 1,600 meter relays. Both relays ran PSAC-leading times of 47.60 and 3:50.67, respectively.Cochran also won the 200 meters in 24.89 the fastest time in the PSAC this season and the 400 in 56.61.Amanda Seigworth had three wins for The Rock.
The 29th-ranked Rock (20-4) won all three doubles matches over Kutztown Saturday, scoring a 5-1 victory to finish third in the PSAC Championships.Lara Rizzi and Casey Runyan combined to win at No. 3 doubles and both won their singles matches.SRU's No. 1 doubles team of Kayla Blackburn and Jessica Hilborn won their match, as did the No. 2 doubles unit of Laura Handy and Chelsea Gibson. Gibson and Handy both won at singles as well.
