Norma Jeanne Yorns
Norma Jeanne Yorns, 86, of Dover died Saturday at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del.
Mrs. Yorns was born Oct. 23, 1922, in New Brighton to the late Loren L. Davis and Mary A. Kester Davis.
The Yorns family lived in Butler until moving to Venice, Fla., in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Roy V. Yorns, in 1989; and her son, Randolph V. Yorns, in l990.
Mrs. Yorns remained in Florida and worked at Neilson Research until l997, when she decided to move to Dover, where her daughter's family lived.
Mrs. Yorns was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Dover and participated in the women's circle. She also joined the Newcomer's Club of Dover. She belonged to the Book Club and Singles Club at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover. Mrs. Yorns also was a member of the Red Hat Society-Crimson Bonnets, Harvest Years and the R and R Singles.
She was very proud of her Delaware Gamma Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority lifetime membership of more than 50 years. She also enjoyed teaching bridge to several groups of women.
Mrs. Yorns gave up her career of teaching social graces and etiquette when her son, Randy, became ill in l966. She cared for Randy until l990.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula Jeanne Barndt and her husband, John, of Dover; grandchildren, Rebeccah Jeanne Barndt and boyfriend, Wiliam Benton, and Jacob Tyler Barndt and his girlfriend, Jess Martinski, all of Dover; and great-granddaughter, Brianna Lynn Benton. Brianna brought so much joy to her "Nonny."
For her last three years, she lived at Heritage of Dover, where she was well cared for and met some wonderful friends.
<B>YORNS</B> — Friends of Norma Jeanne Yorns, who died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the <B>Torbert Funeral Chapel</B>, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Church of Dover, 54 S. State St., Dover. Interment will be in Venice, Fla.Of course flowers would be enjoyed by the family, but practical Norma would probably prefer donations to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or to the Presbyterian Church of Dover, 54 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901.
