V. Herbert Kaufman, Adams Twp official
V. Herbert "Herb" Kaufman, 58, of Treesdale, Adams Township, died Wednesday morning at the UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.
Born June 5, 1950, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Victor H. and Bette Jean Heckel Kaufman.
Herb was the director of commercial vehicle business and chief technical officer for SAE International in Warrendale. He was a member of the Pittsburgh Society of Association Executives.
He served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He was an Adams Township supervisor, where he served on the parks and recreation committee and was a member of the zoning hearing board for 10 years.
He served as the liaison for the merger of the Mars and Valencia volunteer fire departments to form the Adams Area Fire District, where he was a life member. He was former chief and president of the Valencia Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a state certified fire school instructor.
He was a member of the Valencia United Methodist Church and had been a football referee for the WPIAL.
Surviving are his wife, Rosella "Rose" Gnagnarelli Kaufman, whom he married Sept. 20, 1980; his daughter, Jessica McDonough and her husband, Shaun, of Monroe, Ohio; and a brother, Barry Kaufman and his wife, Dayle, of Valencia.
<B>KAUFMAN</B> — Friends of V. Herbert "Herb" Kaufman, who died Wednesday. Jan. 28, 2009, will be received from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home</B>, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Valencia United Methodist Church, 66 Almira St., Valencia, with the Rev. Robert Martin, pastor, officiating. Everyone is to please meet at the church. Burial will be in Allegheny County Memorial Park, McCandless Township.Members of the Adams Area Fire District will conduct a memorial service at 8:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Adams Area Fire District, P.O.
