Big 3rd quarter powers Rockets to victory

Karly Rhoads scored 22 points as the Slippery Rock High girls basketball team sprinted away from visiting Sharon in a lopsided third quarter to remain unbeaten in the region with a 69-48 win Monday night.

Sarah Cessar added 13 points and Ali Doyle 10 as the Rockets (9-4, 5-0) outscored Sharon 26-8 in the third quarter to take a 57-27 lead.

Ben Smith, Andrew Olexsak, Brianna Ivory, NathanWulff, Nikki Bruner, Luc Sedwick and Brad Opitz all shot 100 in Butler's 800-62x to 799-64x loss to Mount Lebanon.

Slippery Rock's girls placed 12th in the North East Swimming and Diving Invitational Saturday. Kelsey Reott placed fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1 minute 5.63 seconds. She was fifth in the 200 freestyle in 2:06.18.Nicole Moraitis was 12th in the 500 free and 14th in the 100 butterfly, Katelyn Brozenic 24th in the 100 breaststroke, Kristen Thompson 24th in the 100 butterfly. Reott, Brozenic, Moraitis and Emma Knox were 13th in the 200 medley relay and 14th in the 200 freestyle relay.Up to 50 swimmers competed in each individual event.
