Cherry 90th birthday

Gertrude Cherry

Gertrude Cherry of Butler will celebrate her 90th birthday with a family dinner from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church in Mount Chestnut.

The former Gertrude Hempfling was born Nov. 1, 1918, at the Hempfling homestead in Mount Chestnut.

She married Samuel Cherry Aug. 28, 1951, in New Castle, Del. He is deceased.

She has six children, Robert Mortimer of Butler, Timothy Cherry of Butler, Deborah Cherry of Butler, Jeff Cherry of Nettleton, Miss.; Kim Cherry of East Butler and Susan Holden of Fulton, N.Y. Her sons James Mortimer and Samuel Cherry are deceased.

She also has 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Cherry worked for the British government, the U.S. government, Pullman Standard, Olsen's Restaurant and Thorofare.

She is a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.

She also belongs to the Catholic Ladies Guild, St. Michael's 55 Alive, the Tanglewood Senior Citizens, the Meridian Senior Citizens Retirees and the Days Inn Seniors Swim Group.
