Center Township and Penn Street improved to 5-1 with impressive victories last weekend in the Butler Area Midget Football League.
Meridian outlasted East Butler, 14-8, in overtime.
Center Township 40, East Side 21 — Kolby Kriese raced 56 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage for the winning Rams. He added a 10-yard scoring run later in the first quarter.East Side (2-4) threw two interceptions to set up CT's next two scores. Kriese scored on a 27-yard run and Doug DeFrancis added the two-point conversion kick. DeFrancis ran 19 yards for the other touchdown.Byron Minous scored on a 7-yard run for East Side. Alonzo Fleisher added the conversion kick. Pat Lokhaiser returned the kickoff 55 yards for a TD, however, and DeFrancis added the kick.Just before halftime, Jeremy Geibel scored on a 21-yard run for East Side with Barry Murray running in the conversion. Murray scored on a 46-yard run on fourth down late in the third quarter, but DeFrancis answered with a 41-yard scoring run for CT.
Penn Street 31, South Butler 6 — Christian Manning scored on a 25-yard run, Trae Wilson on a 3-yard run and Keenan Barlow on a 7-yard run for Penn Street in the first half.Shane Wilbert threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Wilson in the second half. Manning scored from 11 yards out before South Butler (0-6) averted the shutout as Clint Regal scored on a 64-yard run with two minutes remaining.
Meridian 14, East Butler 8 — The Raiders took an 8-0 lead into halftime, when Jordan Cratty flipped a 5-yard touchdown pass to Craig Slomers and Christian Kovach added the conversion kick.East Butler got even in the fourth quarter as halfback Cody Preston threw a 33-yard scoring strike to Greg Reddick and Rob Dingel added the conversion kick.Jake Olenick won the game for Meridian in overtime with a 6-yard scoring run.
This week's schedule — East Side faces East Butler at 7 p.m. Thursday. Center Township meets Penn Street at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by South Butler playing Meridian at 7 p.m.
The Seneca Valley Tomahawks junior football team defeated Upper St. Clair White/Red, 12-6, in overtime last weekend.Troy Fisher returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown and Eric Hudanick recovered a fumble to set up a touchdown run by T.J. Bull.Hudanick, Vincent DiNicola, Anthony Mulkerrins and Nolan Golden played strong defense for the Tomahawks (3-1).
