Acquaviva

Michael A. Acquaviva, 72, of Harbison Road in Valencia died Sunday at UPMC Passavant Hospital following an extended illness.

Born Nov. 28, 1935, in Butler, he was a son of Michael A. and Flora Napoletan Acquaviva.

He was a 1953 graduate of Butler High School.

He earned his bachelor's degree in liberal arts from John Carroll University in Cleveland in 1957.

He worked as the associate editor of UNIONE, a national bimonthly newspaper published by the Italian Sons and Daughters of America in Pittsburgh for 30 years. He also worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry as its press officer until his retirement in 1991.

Mr. Acquaviva was member of the Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church in Glade Mills. He was also a member of the Italian Sons and Daughters and was a charter member of the Pittsburgh Columbus Day Parade Committee.

His wife, Lois M. Schubert Acquaviva, whom he married Nov. 24, 1960, preceded him in death on Oct. 14.

Surviving are his daughter, Michele M. Acquaviva of Valencia; a brother, David L. Acquaviva; two sisters, Nancy Tanaka and Marianne Malis; his cousin, who was raised as a brother, Robert Napoletan; and several nieces and nephews.

Cunningham St.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Daniel Maurer officiating.Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Herman.
