A Butler man who committed fraud to support a drug habit could spend as long as a decade in prison.
Thomas Rodgers, 41, of 153 Old East Butler Road was sentenced Tuesday on various charges, including access device fraud, theft and forgery.
In addition to a prison sentence of 2 to 10 years, Rodgers was ordered to pay about $6,200 in restitution to various banking institutions.
Rodgers, who was sentenced by Butler County Judge William Shaffer, said in court that he committed the crimes because of his drug addiction. Rodgers told the judge that he looked forward to the type of counseling he will receive in a state penitentiary.
Butler City Council got its first look Tuesday at the city's Web site being designed by a Butler County Community College student.Caitlin Hagins, 20, is a third-year student at BC3 majoring in graphic design. She is constructing the Web site as part of an internship with the city negotiated through her professor and Mayor Maggie Stock, who is a professor at the college.Hagins, who graduated from Freeport High School in 2005, said she anticipates the site's first posting May 9, though no definite Web address is set.The page will feature a photograph of the city's skyline in its marquee, as well as flash animation."Ultimately I would like to move to North Carolina and open my own automotive graphics shop," Hagins said.<b>Boy scout honored</b>Also Tuesday night, city council commended Hunter Ligo. As part of his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project, Ligo, with the help of fellow Boy Scouts and Cub Scout Pack 5, built a wooden foot bridge in Ritts Park. Additionally, Ligo hung 33 birdhouses and planted 30 magnolia seeds, 15 holly trees, 50 hemlock trees and 200 daffodil bulbs at various spots in the park. He anticipates achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in May.
