Aupperl

Alma R. Thompson Burke Aupperl, 87, of Butler, formerly of New Kensington, died Saturday at the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia, Cabot.

Born May 18, 1920, in Wilkinsburg, she was a daughter of Clarence R. and Ilga Blackburn Thompson.

She was a resident of New Kensington most of her life until she built a home and moved to Butler. She was one of the oldest residents of the Aluminum City Terrace, where she had lived for 62 years. She made her home there with her husband of 30 years, Eugene H., Burke.

Mrs. Aupperl was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of New Kensington, where she was employed for 27 years in the office and as custodial coordinator. She devoted her life to doing God's work and helping others through her contacts at the church. She helped to oversee hundreds of brides and their weddings over the years.

In her younger days, she enjoyed camping with her husband and children at Camp U-Oughta on Crooked Creek.

Mrs. Aupperl, affectionately called "Mama Burke" by all who loved her, loved to cook and bake. She spent her time enjoying her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Maureen Burke (Frank) Horansky of Pinehurst, N.C., Kathleen Burke (James) Claypoole of Butler, and Shelley Burke (William) Powell of New Kensington; stepchildren, Christine Schenk and William Jr.; 11 grandchildren, Scott, Sean, Frank, Lorraine, Donna Bess, Colleen, Brad, Jill, Jason, Brittany and Maggie; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene H. Burke in 1968; her second husband H. William Aupperl in 1990; and siblings, Arlene (Elmer) Steigerwald and Glenn and Dale Thompson, all of Pittsburgh.

<B>AUPPERL</B> — Friends of Alma R. Thompson Burke Aupperl, who died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, 724-335-1234, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Her pastor, the Rev. Colin Yuckman, will officiate.
