Evelyn Cooper Young
Evelyn E. Cooper Young, 89, formerly of New Castle, died at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday at the Avalon Nursing Center, New Castle.
Born March 2, 1918, in Worth Township, she was the daughter of Harry C. Cooper and Margaret Maude Wallace.
She was raised on what is now the north shore of Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park and was a 1936 graduate of the Muddy Creek High School, Portersville.
Mrs. Young had been an inspector at the Dust Proof Mattress Cover Co. in Ellwood City for 17 years. She also had been an operator for the Princeton Telephone Co. and a cook and waitress at Smith's Dairy.
She was a member of the Princeton Presbyterian Church, where she belonged to the Women's Missionary Society. She also belonged to the Ellwood Ladies Club, the Eastern Star Chapter 212 of Ellwood City, was past worth matron of Eastern Star Shenango Chapter 333 from 1980-1981 and was a member of the Senior Women's Club of Ellwood City. She was a former member of the Gasco Club and the Keenagers of Portersville. She enjoyed playing cards.
Surviving are a daughter, Glenna Jeanne (William)Timpano of Ellwood City; a son, John Wayne (Shirley) Young of Longmont, Colo.; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Her husband, John C. Young, whom she married June 12, 1937, died in February 1985. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Dean Wallace Cooper.
<B>YOUNG </B>— Friends of Evelyn E. Cooper Young, who died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the <B>R. Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, New Castle. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Cheryl Waguespack, her church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the Portersville Bible Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the New Castle Public Library, 207 E. North St., New Castle, PA 16101; Shenango Presbyterian Church, 238 S.
