Some fearless playoff predictions
Playoffs? You want to talk about playoffs? Playoffs?
The postseason is here, boys and girls, at least in the magical world of the WPIAL.
This season, Butler County is blessed with three District 7 playoff teams — and all three have home games.
But none are easy calls. What playoff games are easy to predict? It's not like the Red Sox playing the Rockies, after all.
So buckle up your chin straps, bite down on that mouthpiece and prepare for some smashmouth playoff football.
Unless you are in District 9 or 10. You have to wait another week.

Seneca Valley 22, Bethel Park 21 — It turns out the Raiders aren't who we thought they were when the season started. We thought they weren't a playoff-caliber team.Boy, were we wrong.Seneca Valley closed the season with four-straight section wins after dropping 26 in a row before that. Now that's what I call turning things around. They get Bethel Park in their own house this week in a game the Raiders of old probably would find a way to lose. These aren't the Raiders of old, and they will prove it with a one-point playoff victory.•
Knoch 27, New Castle 14 — Hey, the Knights are just out there playing.Knoch has made the playoffs before, but usually as a bottom seed paired against powers like Thomas Jefferson. This season, Knoch gets a home game against New Castle.Tim McNerney continues to show why he is one of the top backs in the WPIAL. He's on a much bigger stage this week. But the Knights have proven time and time again that they are no fluke. They won't let New Castle off the hook. Knoch moves on.•
Mars 30, Valley 18 — The Planets play to win the game, and they did eight times this season.Billy Bair has rushed for about a zillion yards and he could add a couple more kazillion or so against Valley.Put it on the board. Mars will advance. Bair-ly.•
Karns City 18, Forest Hills 13 — This is a good tune-up for Karns City as it prepares for the D-9 playoffs, which begin next week.Last year, Forest Hills routed the Gremlins. Not so this season.•
Slippery Rock 23, Warren 12 — This may turn out to be a big game for the Rockets because of the way District 10 decides its playoff field.A win and the Rockets are almost certainly in. A loss, and Slippery Rock has to hope the dart the D-10 committee throws hits its name on the wall. The Rockets will make the playoffs. I guarantee it.•
Saltsburg 17, Union 2 — One of these 1-8 teams will head into the offseason 2-8.•
Sharon 34, Moniteau 22 — The Warriors will make the playoffs no matter the outcome of this game, but the Warriors really don't want to enter the postseason by losing four of five.Unfortunately, the Tigers are who we think they are: good.Scoop is good, too, at 80-18 after a 9-1 week.
