BUTLER AREA MIDGET FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Alex Scialabba scored on a 2-yard run in overtime, giving Meridian a 6-0 victory over East Side in a mutual Butler Area Midget Football League season opener at Memorial Park over the weekend.
East Side had reached the Meridian 5-yard line late in regulation, but time ran out.
Meridian won the junior varsity game, 30-0, as Jacob Campbell and Trevor Monteleone scored two touchdowns each. Christian Kovack kicked a pair of two-point conversions.
Center Township 37, East Butler 13 — Zack Collins got Center Township started with a 36-yard scoring run in the first quarter and Kolby Kriess ran for the conversion. Hunter Hoffman scored on a 4-yard run in the second quarter, with Pat Lokhaiser adding the conversion kick. Zack Rader's 6-yard TDpass to Lokhaiser increased the lead to 21-0 by halftime.Collins scored on a 70-yard run to help balloon the lead to 37-0 before East Butler scored twice in the final quarter. Cody Preston scored on a 9-yard run and added a conversion run. Bobby Coyle tossed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Ryan McCrea.
South Butler 27, Penn Street 13 — Cody West scored on a 6-yard run to get South Butler on the scoreboard first, but Penn Street responded with a long scoring run by Shawn Hembree. Chad Lamont's PATgave Penn Street a 7-6 lead.Mick Fennell intercepted a pass to set up Canen Roskovski's 15-yard scoring pass to Cody West for a 12-7 South Butler lead. The lead was extended when West scored on a 1-yard run and added a two-point conversion kick. Chad Lamont's 71-yard TDrun pulled Penn Street closer, but West returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown to close out the scoring.

Saturday's schedule — Center Township vs. Meridian, 5:30 p.m.; Penn Street vs. East Side, 7 p.m.
