Sylvia Bernstein Schneer, 87, of Zelienople, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Saturday at the Passavant Retirement Community.

Born June 16, 1920, in Brooklyn, she was the daughter Urian and Sophie Farber Bernstein.

Mrs. Schneer always had a great interest in the piano. At age 8, she began studies under the direction of Isaac Ginsburg and continued studies with him until his death in 1956.

She received a bachelor's degree in music from Brooklyn College and her master's in music and music education from Columbia University. She taught vocal and orchestral music at the New York City Junior High School for 21 years before retiring in 1976.

During her career, she played a number of concerts at Carnegie Hall performing piano works from Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and other great musicians. She was a member of the Leschetizky Association, the Piano Teachers' Congress of New York and the Behre Piano Association.

She is survived by two cousins, Mimi Gertz and Helen Turer, both from New York, N.Y.; and her dear friend, Edith Sagul of Zelienople.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Sidney, Charles and Felix Bernstein; and two cousins, Zena Jacobs and Bianca Bernstein.
