Burns

Ruth L. Burns, 79, of Chicora, formerly of Baltimore, Md., died at 4:28 a.m. Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Youn-gstown, Ohio, March 27, 1928, she was the daughter of Lawrence P. and Ruth Mitchell Shanley.

She had been an organist and pianist at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Erie for a number of years. She also had been a concert pianist for the Cleveland Youth Orchestra.

Surviving are her husband, Robert L. Burns whom she married July 4, 1947; a son, Robert J. Burns and his wife, Carol, of Ashtabula, Ohio; four daughters, Mary Janet Barczak and her husband, Edward, of Elkridge, Md., Patricia Ann Gibson of Monroe, Ga., Kathie Garfinkel and her husband, Sandy, of Lausanne, Switzerland, and Dottie Schindlinger and her husband, Ron, of Cheltenham, Montgomery County; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Two sisters and a brother, Jane Donohue of Seaford, N.Y., Dorothy Bowers of Tempe, Ariz., and Gerald Shanley of Hempstead, N.Y., also survive.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Shanley, and a sister, Eugenia Monroe.

<B>BURNS </B>— Friends of Ruth L. Burns, who died Sunday, April 21, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. David DeWitt officiating. Burial will be at the Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
