Gardasil
When Lisa Weisenstein correlates support for vaccines against sexually transmitted diseases, exemplified by Gardasil, with declining adherence to Christian morality she seems to take for granted that everyone must adhere to Christian morality. Simply stated, not everyone adheres to this version of morality which is based on the acceptance of a supernatural diety. Florence is right to emphasize that choices of people regarding sexual behavior are exclusively the concern of only the individuals involved and to argue otherwise is akin to the Sharia law widespread in Islamic theocracies like Iran.
Ms. Weisenstein also writes for parental choice in the administration of the vaccine. Governor Rick Perry's (R-TX) executive order mandating the vaccine in public schools permits parents to opt out of the vaccination for philosophical reasons (if they so choose). No one is forcing anyone to get vaccinated against their parents' wills and no amount of criticism of this vaccine will change its efficacy.
