Kathryn 'Kitty' Nebel

Kathryn H. "Kitty" Hawkins Nebel, 88, of Contonment, Fla., formerly of Herman, died Wednesday at the Gulf Breeze Hospital in Gulf Breeze, Fla.

Born March 17, 1918, in Valencia, she was a daughter of John and Laura Barton Hawkins.

Mrs. Nebel was a graduate of the Mars High School. She graduated in 1942 as a registered nurse from Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh and served as a pediatric head nurse at Children's for three years until her marriage. She also had been a private duty nurse.

Following their retirement, she and her husband moved to Mobile, Ala., in 1991, where they lived until recently moving to Florida to be near their son.

She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman. She also attended St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Center Township and Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church while living in Mobile.

Mrs. Nebel was a member of the Christian Mothers at St. Mary Parish and the Nurses Alumni of Children's Hospital.

Surviving are a son, Matthew H. Nebel of Contonment; a daughter, Mrs. Dusty (Virginia) Winn of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, Matthew T. Hawkins of Valencia, and a sister, Mrs. Edward (Ruth) Homburg of Australia. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Her husband, Joseph J. Nebel, whom she married July 9, 1945, died July 30, 2006. A brother also preceded her in death.

<B>NEBEL </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Kathryn H. "Kitty" Hawkins Nebel, who died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Herman.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
