Northern Steel's under-12 and under-14 boys soccer teams fared well at the U SClub Penn West State Cup Tournament in Erie last weekend.

Despite goals from Mark Bleggi and Kory Wood, the under-12 team dropped a 3-2 decision to Erie in its first game of the tournament. Northern Steel won its next two games before bowing to Century United, 3-1, in the championship game.

Jesse Lyons of Grove City scored Northern Steel's lone goal in the title game.

Stephen Rodgers of Butler and David Hidinger of Freeport scored in a 3-0 win over the North Stars. James Wisniesky and Bleggi scored in a 2-0 win over the Strikers.

The under-12 boys qualified for the U S Club Regional tournament in Fort Dix, N.J., this week.

Northern Steel's under-14 team defeated STN3-0 as Chris Robinson and Nathan Shook, both of Butler, scored goals along with Ryan Hyatt of Slippery Rock. Hyatt scored in a 1-0 win over IFC.

The Strikers defeated Northern Steel, 1-0, in its third game.
