Robert C. Jones, 85, of Clark Avenue in the Oak Hills Heights area died April 26 at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Born March 10, 1921, in Beloit, Ohio, he was a son of Truman W. and Ethel Mackenzie Jones.

He attended Kent State University in Ohio and the Pittsburgh Technical Institute.

Mr. Jones began his career in the steel industry at Armco-Butler Works, where he worked for a three-year period. He then moved to Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Leechburg, where he worked in industrial engineering and spent his last 15 years as a production foreman. He also worked in industrial relations and wrote and published the Allegheny Ludlum weekly newsletter for more than 20 years while working as the training and suggestions coordinator. He retired in 1983 after a total of 35 years.

A World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps, he was a B-26 bomber pilot and flew 39 missions over Europe. He belonged to the 320th Bomb Group, also known as the "Boomerangs," and earned the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the European Theatre Medal with 4 battle stars. He also was a test pilot for aircraft shake-down missions.

He enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club, where he belonged to the trap league. He also enjoyed golfing and training his golden retriever for duck hunting.

Surviving are his wife, M. Elizabeth "Betty" Diehl Jones, whom he married Sept. 19, 1943; a daughter, Susan Litteral of Indiana, Pa.; a son and his wife, Tim and Judy Jones of Allen, Texas; and a granddaughter, Jennifer A. Litteral of Bar Harbor, Maine. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

A brother and a sister preceded him in death.

<B>JONES </B>— Friends of Robert C. Jones, who died Wednesday, April 26, 2006, will be received from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. David West, pastor of the GraceWay Community Church, officiating. Private burial will be at the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
