YOUT SOCCER
Northern Steel's U-14 Classic girls soccer team recently ended its indoor season by posting a 7-1-3 record and winning its division in the Pittsburgh Indoor Sports Arena League.
The squad outscored its opponents 22-4. In the past two and a half years, the Comets have won four tournaments and finished second in seven others.
The team consists of 18 players from nine school districts:Butler, Seneca Valley, Beaver, Blackhawk, Kiski Area, North Hills, Knoch, Freeport and Mars.
In other action:
• Northern Steel's Under-13 girls played in a pair of 0-0 ties.
• Stephen Rodgers scored the Under-12 boys' lone goal, assisted by Kory Wood, in a 1-1 tie against Erie.
• Adam Bombalski scored on an assist from Ethan Richter as the Under-16 boys lost 2-1 to the Pittsburgh Strikers. Goalie Pat Hamilton stopped a penalty kick to keep the score close.
• Todd Pindroh scored for the Under-16 boys in a 1-1 tie with the Cleveland White Caps. Bobby McKinney scored on a penalty kick and Michael Gezo scored the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Pennine United.
