YOUTH SOCCER
Northern Steel youth soccer teams compiled a few victories in recent Northern Steel Cup Tournament play:
The under-14 boys defeated team Center of State College 5-1, then defeated Erie 7-1 and Phoenix before losing a 3-1 decision to the Cleveland Whitecaps in the finals.
The under-15 Phantom boys won the championship by defeating the Cleveland Blues 8-0, losing 2-0 to the Erie Admirals and defeating the Cleveland Whitecaps 4-1 and Admirals 2-1 in the finals.
The under-15 Phantoms also were tapped to play in the Jefferson Cup soccer tournament in Richmond, Va.
In Northern Steel games played indoors:
The under-13 girls defeated Century United 4-1 as Carley Deskins scored two goals, and Kristy Teorsky and Nicolette Blake had one each.
The under-12 boys defeated North United 3-1 as James Winiesky scored two goals and Ethan McCarthy netted one.
The under-14 boys lost to IFC, 3-1, as Ryan Hyatt scored the lone goal, assisted by CJ Burger.
