Alumni picked for BC3 award
BUTLER TWP - The Butler County Community College Alumni Association has selected the 2005 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipients.
The awards recognize former BC3 students who are making outstanding contributions in their professions and communities.
The 2005 recipients are:<BR></BR><B>Shelley Houllion Duffy,</B> a Pittsburgh morning news co-host. Duffy graduated from BC3 in 1982 and has been a Pittsburgh radio personality for 18 years. She began her career on B-94 and is currently the co-host of the KDKA morning news program. She serves on the board of directors of the Leukemia Society and Pittsburgh Cares and is active with several other social service agencies.<BR></BR>
<B>Paul Kengor,</B> a New York Times best-selling author and Grove City College political science professor. He attended BC3 in 1985 and is the author of the book "God and Reagan" and "God and George W. Bush." He has appeared on many television shows, including The O'Reilly Factor on Fox News and C-SPAN.<BR></BR>
<B>David Knapp,</B> president of Clear Ideas Consulting and a marathon runner. Knapp is a 1984 BC3 graduate and has worked with national and international organizations in nearly all areas of organizational development.<BR></BR>
<B>Patty Paytas,</B> vice president of communications for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Paytas is a 1979 BC3 graduate and began with the Pirates as an intern in the PR department. She also worked at Burson Mastellar, a communication firm, from 1994 to 2000.<BR></BR>
<B>Nicholas Toubakaris,</B> president of O.H. Nicholas Transfer and Storage. He came to the United States from Greece in 1970 at the age of 29 and began attending classes at BC3 in 1971. He graduated in 1977 and transferred to Slippery Rock University. He has a wide range of community involvement and volunteer work.<BR></BR>The alumni awards ceremony will be May 6 in the AK Steel Lobby of the Succop Theater. Hors d'oeuvres will be served at 6:30 p.m. Mike Franko, a 1974 BC3 graduate, will emcee the event.The awards ceremony will be at 7:30 p.m., followed by a dessert reception.Tickets are $12 per person, $10 for members of the BC3 Alumni Association.To reserve tickets, call the Succop Theater box office between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday at 724-284-8505.
