Butler native brings jazz band to town for show
BUTLER TWP - Butler native Matt Blostein is coming home and he's bringing his jazz quartet with him.
Blostein, a 1998 Butler High School graduate, formed the Blostein-Sperazza Quartet in 2002. The quartet consists of four musicians: Blostein, Vinnie Sperazza, Peter Brendler and Danny Fox.
Blostein, who plays the jazz saxophone, said the quartet's style of music is hard to pin down because it's about communication rather than technique.
Sperazza said, "The music that Matt writes, and the way we play that music together, is geared toward connecting with the audience on all levels."
Blostein is a former student of Butler High School music instructors Vince Sanzotti and Andy Yaracs.
"He was way ahead of his chronological age in musical talent," Yaracs said. "He was one of our top musicians and you could tell that he'd be successful in anything musically he chooses to do."
