Tuesday — Tabatha L. Covey, 38, of Butler was charged in connection with a shoplifting incident earlier this month at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Police said she was caught about 4:35 p.m. April 3 trying to steal $217.53 in merchandise at the self-checkout registers.

Covey is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.

Thursday — Police obtained arrest warrants for a man and woman in connection with the unauthorized use of a prepaid debit card. Charged with felony counts of theft and access device fraud are Gregory J. Stewart, 38, of Lawrence, Washington County and Marissa M. Sellers, 28, of Eau Claire.

The victim told police that on April 4 she had given Sellers her Walmart debit card and allowed her to use it to by $20 worth of gasoline, according to court documents. The cardholder ended being admitted to Butler Memorial Hospital for several days.

When she was released, she noticed unauthorized charges. She talked to Sellers about the card and Sellers claimed Stewart, her boyfriend, had it, documents said.

Police allege $2,252.52 in fraudulent charges were made with the card between April 5 and 9 at automated teller machines, gas stations and stores in Butler County.

Thursday — Curtis E. Flick, 32, of Fenelton was charged with driving on drugs stemming from a hit-and-run crash last month in Summit Township.

Police said Flick’s sport utility vehicle about 9:35 p.m. March 23 struck a parked car while exiting the Dollar General parking lot on Route 422. A witness reported that the defendant got out of his SUV, walked around the vehicle for a while and then returned to his vehicle and drove away.

A trooper came upon Flick a short time later near a gas station. He was changing the front left tire of his SUV. Police said he appeared impaired and later was taken for a drug recognition expert’s evaluation following field sobriety testing.

Toxicology results from a blood test at Butler Memorial Hospital showed he had a number of drugs in his system including the prescription medication clonazepam, cocaine and fentanyl.

Flick is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, hit-and-run, driving a vehicle without insurance, disobeying traffic control devices and improperly entering or crossing a road.

April 11 — Police charged an Erie teenager with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop for speeding last month in Clearfield Township. Christopher R. Gallagher Jr., 18, was clocked on radar about 5:35 p.m. March 23 traveling 79 mph in a 55 mph zone on Route 422 east between Moran and McGrady roads.

Gallagher denied drinking alcohol or recently smoking marijuana. He admitted, according to court documents, that there was a smoking pipe in the console. Police seized the pipe.

The defendant failed field sobriety tests and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test that showed he had marijuana and amphetamine in his system, documents said.

In addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, he is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding and disregarding traffic lanes.

April 11 — Darla L. Stewart, 55, of Center Township was charged with illegally attempting to buy a handgun in December at a Summit Township gun store.

Police said Stewart provided false information on her background check application Dec. 20, 2017, when she tried to buy a 9 mm pistol at Sportsman’s Supply on Freeport Road.

The purchase was subsequently denied. She is charged with unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm, a felony, and making a false statement, a misdemeanor.
