6:17 p.m. Feb. 21 — Randall E. Anderson, 62, of Cranberry Township was arrested for drugged driving after he allegedly rear-ended another vehicle at Main and Jefferson streets.

The other motorist told police that Anderson struck the back of her vehicle that was stopped at a traffic light. While they exchanged information, according to court documents, she reported that the defendant was “nodding off and acting strange.”

Police believed Anderson was under the influence when they spoke to him at the scene. He admitted that he snorted an unknown amount of heroin a few hours earlier, documents said.

The defendant was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. At the hospital, police said, emergency room staff had to administer the opioid antidote Narcan to Anderson. Toxicology reports are still pending.

He is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

7:47 p.m. Tuesday — Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle collision at New Castle and North Duffy roads.

One of the drivers, Gerald Campbell, 43, of Butler, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries. The other driver, Rachel Ross, 25, of Butler, refused treatment for a minor injury.

Both vehicles had to be towed.

1:38 p.m. Monday — Two students, ages 14 and 15, got into a fight at Butler Intermediate High School. Police cited both girls for disorderly conduct.

About the same time, according to a police report, officers found another student, a 14-year-old boy, with an empty plastic BB gun magazine. A staff member found the item inside the teenager’s back pack.

Police noted there were no threats to any students, facility members or the public. The boy was cited for disorderly conduct.

Monday — Three-time convicted shoplifter Alan J. Miller, 36, of Butler was charged with the same crime last week at the Butler Commons’ Walmart.

Police said Miller about 12:50 p.m. Feb. 20 shoplifted $557.20 in merchandise. He is charged with a felony count of retail theft.

[naviga:h3]Penn Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

Feb. 12 — Lacey J. Beattie, 34, of Winfield Township was charged with having suspected marijuana and marijuana cigarettes in glass jars, stemming from a traffic stop earlier in the month at Renfrew and Three Degree roads.

Police said they pulled over Beattie about 9:30 a.m. Feb. 6 for a suspended car registration, according to court documents. The officer smelled what she believed was marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The defendant admitted that she had a marijuana joint in the ashtray, and handed it over the to the officer, police said. She also turned over a book bag that contained one jar with suspected marijuana and a second jar with 11 suspected joints.

Additionally, in the bag was a pack of rolling papers, a joint roller, a marijuana pipe and six unknown pills. Beattie also was found to be carrying two hydrocodone pills.

Beattie is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and driving under suspension.

[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock Police[/naviga:h3]

Feb. 20 — Ryan C. Combs, 22, of Slippery Rock was charged with drunken driving stemming from a one-vehicle wreck earlier this month on the 400 block of Elm Street.

Police said Combs’ car Feb. 4 struck the back of a sport utility vehicle that was parked on the side of the road. He then backed up and hit a utility pole. The car had severe damage and the SUV had moderate damage.

The defendant admitted that he “had a few” alcoholic beverages prior to driving, according to court documents. He later failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Slippery Rock University police station for a breath test.

Police said his blood-alcohol level was 0.102 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

Combs is charged with driving under the influence and careless driving.

[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock University Police[/naviga:h3]

12:59 p.m. Feb. 17 — A Slippery Rock University student was caught with suspected drug contraband after police were called for the smell of marijuana coming from a dorm room at Watson Hall.

Police said Rowen B. Mayes, 19, of Hillsborough, N.J., was found with a vaporizer pen that had suspected marijuana residue in it. He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Friday — An unknown crook broke into three homes in Forward Township and made off with three handguns and other property. The alleged crime spree happened between 10 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday.

The suspect is accused of entering the homes on Naughton Circle and taking a Ruger LCR-LG .38-caliber revolver, a Glock .40-caliber pistol, a Smith & Wesson .40-caliber pistol, Vortex binoculars, a wallet and about $300 in currency.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.

Feb. 8 — An Allegheny County man was charged with being more than 3½ times the legal limit for alcohol in connection with a December traffic stop for speeding in Buffalo Township.

Police said they clocked Jon B. Cevario, 49, of O’Hara Township about 6:15 p.m. Dec. 23 going 82 mph on Route 28 north just before exit 17. The posted speed limit is 65 mph. But as a trooper followed the defendant, his speed ticked up to 88 mph, court documents indicate.

The trooper stopped him shortly after crossing the Buffalo bridge.

Cevario acknowledged he’d had one drink before driving. He was subsequently arrested after failing field sobriety tests. He was taken to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin Township, Armstrong County, for a blood test.

Toxicology results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.283 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

In addition to driving under the influence, Cevario is charged with speeding and a lane violation.
