Tuesday — A Beaver County man was arraigned on drug possession and other charges stemming from a hit-and-run crash earlier this month on South Pike Road.

Police said they began pursuing the defendant, Joshua L. Gibson, 28, of Ellwood City, after they saw his car travel off the road and nearly hit a stop sign at Rambler Drive and South Pike Road. Moments later, according to court documents, the car hit a mailbox and post at a home on the 600 block of South Pike Road.

The vehicle traveled through the front yard and damaged the home’s solar lighting system. Damage was estimated at $250.

An officer used his emergency lights and siren to pull over Gibson, but he would not immediately stop, documents said. Police eventually were able to stop the car on Mulone Drive.

Gibson, who was placed in handcuffs, told the officer that he crashed “because he fell asleep.” He allegedly admitted there was a tin container with a crack pipe in his car.

Police found the tin with the pipe. They also noticed a loaded syringe and two stamp bags of suspected heroin on the driver’s seat, documents said. Police subsequently found two additional bags of suspected heroin in the center console.

Gibson is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, hit-and-run, reckless driving, disregarding traffic lanes and criminal mischief. He is free on $10,000 unsecured bail.

Tuesday — Constance D. Thompson, 55, of Saxonburg was charged with stalking after she allegedly continued to harass a man after being told to stop.

The victim on Monday notified police that the defendant had again texted him and also showed up the Dollar General store on West Main Street, where he works, according to court documents.

Police noted that just two days earlier they had spoken to Thompson at the station and “advised her to have no more contact with (the victim),” documents said.

Additionally, another officer on Aug. 11 investigated an incident between Thompson and the victim and advised the defendant to cease contact with the man. Police also cited her for harassment in that incident.

Police said they also spoke to a store supervisor Monday and learned that Thompson had previously been barred from the business due to repeated incidents with the victim.

The victim, Timothy Welter, told police that he farms several corn fields throughout Butler County. He showed police the field on Gamelands Road, which had five different paths, made by a bike, running through it.

“McCullough was interviewed and admitted to often riding his bicycle through the corn field and causing some of the damage,” a police affidavit. But he “denied creating the original paths.”

He is charged with misdemeanor counts of agricultural vandalism and criminal mischief.

9:28 p.m. Aug. 5 — Ryan M. Ziacik, 30, of Cranberry Township was charged with driving under the influence in Penn Township. Police said a trooper about 9:23 p.m. saw the defendant’s car allegedly run the stop sign at Beacon and Meridian roads.

The test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.122 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

In addition to DUI, Ziacik is charged with disobeying traffic control devices, careless driving and a stop sign violation.
