12:29 a.m. Monday — Michael J. Via, 34, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a former girlfriend during a domestic dispute at her home in the 500 block of North McKean Street.

Via is accused of showing up at Kristin Gage’s apartment, where he ripped a window screen out and broke another window, according to court documents.

Via got into Gage’s face, documents said, and subsequently assaulted her. She repeatedly told Via to leave.

He eventually left, however, he later sent her allegedly threatening messages, saying he was “going to hurt her and then hurt himself.”

Police said Gage had minor injuries.

Officers arrested the defendant, who appeared intoxicated, after they stopped him walking down the street near his home in the 400 block of East Pearl Street.

Via was arraigned on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, public drunkenness and criminal mischief. He is free on $5,000 unsecured bail.

10:56 a.m. Friday — Samuel R. Baumgarten, 25, of Valencia and Sarah Hunter, 20, of Eau Claire were both hurt when vehicles they were driving collided at Route 8 and Cooledge Street.

Both drivers were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unspecified injuries. Both vehicles had to be towed. Police cited Baumgarten for a stop sign violation and making an improper left turn.

5:59 p.m. June 6 — A car driven by Kristi M. Angert, 35, of Butler rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped at a traffic light on Route 8 at Vogel Road. Janet McCormick, 72, of Chicora was the other driver.

No one was injured but both vehicles had to be towed. Police cited Angert for driving at an unsafe speed.

5:18 p.m. May 28 — Mark Goldinger, 43, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting several pieces of merchandise at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. He is charged with retail theft.

11:54 p.m. Sunday — One person was hurt in a two-vehicle wreck in Jefferson Township. The crash happened when a pickup truck and car collided at Route 356 and Marwood Road.

After the collision, the car went off the road and struck a camper trailer that was for sale in a yard, according to Chief Chris Ballina of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company.

State police are investigating but an accident report was not immediately available.

The drivers, both men, were believed to be in their mid- to late 20s. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Butler Memorial with apparent minor injuries.

Thursday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Thomas W. Stevenson Jr., 30, of Philadelphia on charges he sold narcotics in Butler nearly two years ago.

Stevenson is accused of selling 28 stamp bags of heroin on Sept. 9, 2015, at an apartment in the 300 block of South Chestnut Street, according to court documents. The deal was for $240.

He is charged with felony and misdemeanor drug possession.
