Sunday — A New Jersey pair was arrested on charges they used a Butler woman’s reportedly stolen credit and debit cards to make more than $1,000 in unauthorized transactions.

Bryan J. Brown, 35, of Bridgeton and Deanne T. Giffins-Matlack, 32, of Glassboro each faces at least two felonies in the case.

Police said they began their investigation May 4 after the alleged victim reviewed her financial statements and found that someone had used her cards without her permission to rack up $1,005.99 in transactions.

Investigators eventually checked surveillance video at the Target store in Butler Township, according to court documents, and identified Brown and Giffins-Matlack as making transactions with the victim’s cards.

Police about 7:50 p.m. Saturday were called to the Dollar General store on North Main Street to respond to a report of both suspects being in the area. Officers found them in the parking lot of the nearby Rite Aid store.

Brown, who was wanted on a warrant out of New Jersey, unsuccessfully tried hiding in a building close by, documents said.

Both defendants were arraigned on felony charges of access device fraud and conspiracy to commit access device fraud.

Brown is charged with another felony, flight to avoid apprehension. Giffins-Matlack is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

Following arraignment, Brown was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail and Giffins-Matlack was released on her own recognizance.

Wednesday — Kristie N. Lanegan, 50, of Butler was charged with felony shoplifting stemming from an incident last week at the Rite Aid store on South Main Street.

Police said Lanegan was seen hiding $200 in merchandise, including cosmetics, in her purse and leaving the store without paying for them.

The suspect, who has three prior shoplifting convictions, according to court documents, is charged with a felony count of retail theft.

Monday — Julie L. Lascuola, 34, of Butler was charged with having drugs and other contraband during a police investigation April 13 at a home on Penn Avenue. She is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

4:48 a.m. Wednesday — John N. Ingram, 33, of Butler lost control of his vehicle apparently after falling asleep and crashed down an embankment, hitting numerous trees along Greenwood Drive. He was not injured but his car had to be towed.

Police cited Ingram for careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes and driving without insurance.

Saturday — An unknown vandal smashed a pillar light at a 67-year-old woman’s home on Pine Ridge Drive in Chicora. The vandalism happened between 8 p.m. and midnight.
