William “Bill” H. Cook

William “Bill” H. Cook

William “Bill” H. Cook, 85, of Mars died Thursday at UPMC Passavant Hospital in the North Hills.

Born March 4, 1931, in Gibsonia, he was the son of the late James Thomas Leroy and Catherine Morrow Cook.

In 1992, Bill retired from North Pittsburgh Telephone Co. (Consolidated Communications) after 37 years, where he was an electronic technician.

Bill was a member of the Mars United Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years. He served on many committees and held several titles, some being elder, deacon, youth group leader, custodian and A-team member. Almost every Sunday morning for the past 60 years, Bill could be found sitting in his pew, which was always the sixth pew from the front of the church, enjoying church service.

Bill was a member of the Mars AARP, Silver Sneakers, Chisels and Chips Carvers of North Pittsburgh and the National Woodcarvers Association. Everyone appreciated his talent with woodcarvings, a self-taught hobby he developed a year before retiring. He was very proud of his collection, which contained more than 1,000 carvings that he carved. He won several ribbons and awards at shows. He also was known to carve various items for gifts for family, friends and church functions.

Most of all, Bill was proud of his life he made with his loving wife of 57 years and their beautiful home they built together. His dream was to provide a perfect and peaceful country life for his wife and children while they enjoyed the small town living. His dream came true. Bill was patient, kind, religious, and dedicated to his wife, children, home and church.
