Butler PoliceMonday — Matthew P. Zulick, 50, of Butler was charged with stealing money from a car this month in the YMCA parking lot on North Washington Street.Police were called about 2 p.m. Sept. 11 after a YMCA employee spotted an unknown man inside one of the vehicles. The employee, a woman, confronted the man, who left. She provided police with a description of the suspect.An officer soon after spotted a man who matched the suspected thief’s description riding a bicycle in the 300 block of East Penn Street. Police stopped the man, who they identified as Zulick. The witness later also identified him as the man she saw in the vehicle at the YMCA parking lot, court documents said.The owner reported that about $70 in currency was missing from his vehicle.Zulick later admitted being in the vehicle, documents said, but he denied taking any money. He claimed he “did not have time to take anything because of the employee confronting him,” according to a police affidavit.Zulick is charged with theft from a vehicle and receiving stolen property.10 p.m. Friday — Robert P. Kummer, 46, of Clay Township was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his children’s mother, Laura Isenberg, during a domestic dispute at her home in the 300 block of Zeigler Avenue.Isenberg told police that during the altercation Kummer punched her in the face. Police said she suffered apparent minor injuries including swelling and bruising to the left eye.Kummer was gone when officers got there, but police later arrested him. He was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of simple assault, and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Butler Township PoliceWednesday — Police filed misdemeanor drug charges against a South Carolina woman in connection with a suspected overdose Sept. 12 at the Holiday Inn on North Duffy Road.The suspect, Christina M. Papania, 32, of Sumter, formerly of Butler, suffered an apparent heroin overdose in her room at the hotel. Police later found suspected heroin and drug contraband in the room.Papania is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.4:40 p.m. Monday — A car driven by Seth Coyle, 30, of Butler rear-ended a sport utility vehicle on Route 8 north at Belmont Road. No one was injured but Coyle’s car had to be towed.Donald Kern, 67, of Butler was the other driver.1:30 p.m. Monday — Two students, both girls, landed in trouble with the law for fighting at the Butler Senior High School. Police cited both youths for disorderly conduct.

Grove City Police4:49 a.m. Saturday — David G. Nation III, 20, of Grove City was arrested for drunken driving on North Broad Street. In addition to driving under the influence, he also is charged with minors prohibited from driving with any alcohol in their system and underage drinking.

Butler County Sheriff10:39 a.m. Friday — Tyler J. Scheller, 22, of Zelienople allegedly provided false information on a background check form to obtain a permit to carry a handgun.Scheller is accused of giving answers about his criminal record on the concealed carry application that were not truthful and was rejected by the Pennsylvania Instant Check System that is run by the state police.He is charged with unsworn falsification to authorities.

State Police, Butler6:43 a.m. today — Two women were reportedly hurt in a head-on collision on Staff Road near the Moraine Camplands in Brady Township. A police report was not immediately available and the names of the drivers were not known.A Butler Ambulance Service crew took one of the drivers to Butler Memorial Hospital with apparent minor injuries. The other driver was checked at the scene but refused further medical treatment.Unionville volunteer firefighters assisted police with traffic control. Traffic was reduced to one lane following the crash. It was not immediately known what caused the wreck but fire crews noted the road was wet from the overnight and morning rain.Wednesday — Police reported they continue to investigate this month’s death of a 53-year-old woman at her home on Mars Evans City Road in Forward Township. Foul play is not suspected.A friend and co-worker found the woman dead Sept. 11 after going to her home to check on her. The woman had called off work that day after leaving early Sept. 10 because she was not feeling well.Police said they are awaiting the final autopsy report.Tuesday — An unknown thief stole a woman’s purse after breaking into a car at a home on Northside Lane in Slippery Rock Township.The suspect between 7:04 and 8:27 a.m. pried open the doors of the car and got inside, taking the purse that was on the passenger seat. Among the items in the purse were personal checks and about $250 in currency.
