Butler PoliceThursday — Police charged Lacey M. Sweitzer, 35, of Butler stemming from a check written last year for $6,787 that was to pay for a car.The victim, a Butler man, told police that Sweitzer wrote the check to Baglier Mazda on the victim’s checking account in June 2015, apparently with the promise to reimburse him. The defendant, however, has since ignored the victim’s phone calls and messages.Sweitzer is charged with a felony count of theft by deception.

Butler Twp Police2:54 p.m. May 17 — A car driven by Annmarie Bedner, 46, of Butler struck a sign in the 500 block of Evans City Road.

Grove City Police7:45 p.m. Sunday — Gary E. Gotshall, 74, of Grove City was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license-DUI related at Kinder Avenue and West Main Street.3:02 p.m. Thursday — A student was caught with a seven-blade throwing star at Grove City High School. The boy, who police did not identify, is charged in Mercer County juvenile court with possessing a weapon on school property.3:05 a.m. Thursday — A 17-year-old girl took a family member’s vehicle without permission from a home on East Pine Street. Upon returning home. The girl, who police did not identify, eventually returned the car. But she subsequently was charged in juvenile court with unauthorized use of a vehicle and a driver’s license a violation.May 16 — A 15-year-old girl was charged with retail theft for shoplifting a food item from the Country Fair on West Main Street earlier this month. Police noted the alleged theft was caught on store surveillance video.

State Police, ButlerMonday — Police charged Cory J. Smeltzer, 36, of Kittanning with trying to illegally buy a firearm at a Clearfield Township gun store last year.Smeltzer is accused of providing false information on a federal form that was required Dec. 7 when he attempted to buy a rifle at Fenelton Firearms on Steighner Road.He is charged with unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm, a felony, and unsworn falsification to authorities, a misdemeanor.2:38 a.m. Sunday — Stephanie R. Miller, 32, of Butler was arrested for driving under the influence on Route 8 in Center Township.In addition to DUI, Miller is charged with driving an unregistered vehicle, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.6:55 p.m. May 14 — An unknown thief stole a wallet from a 47-year-old Butler man’s truck parked at the Sunoco gas station on Route 8 in Center Township. The wallet contained about $165 and assorted credit and bank cards. Anyone with information is asked to all police at 724-284-8100.

State Police, Kittanning5:35 p.m. Sunday — A 22-year-old Ridgway man, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of drugged driving on Route 28 in South Buffalo Township. Police said they also found the man and his passenger, a 23-year-old man, also of Ridgway, who they did not identify, with suspected marijuana and related paraphernalia.Charges against both men are pending lab results.

State Police, Mercer10:55 p.m. Tuesday — Terry L. Miller, 24, of New Castle swerved his vehicle to avoid an animal on Route 208 in Springfield Township and struck several trees. Miller suffered a minor injury and he refused treatment at the scene. His vehicle was towed.May 13 — Michael Douglas Hall, 33, of Grove City was arrested for allegedly lying to police during his required registration as a sex offender.Police said Hall gave incorrect information about his current address and failed to report both a change of employment and a new Facebook account.Additionally, according to a police report, authorities found him with a cell phone that contained explicit images of children. Police noted that state parole agents assisted in the arrest.Hall was arraigned on charges of failing to comply with requirements of being a sexual offender and unsworn falsification to authorities. He was placed in the Mercer County Jail on $100,000 bail following arraignment.

State Police, New CastleSunday — An unknown burglar made off with a 50-inch television from a home in the 300 block of Cycle Drive in Scott Township. The break-in and theft happened between May 16 and Sunday.
