Butler PoliceMonday — Jonathan L. Madden, 37, of Center Township was charged with drunken driving stemming from a one-vehicle wreck earlier this month on Shore Street. Police said Madden about 5:40 p.m. May 1 crashed his pickup truck into a fire hydrant near Maple Avenue.Officers found the truck hung up on the hydrant, which was damaged, but the suspect was gone.Two witnesses told police that they saw the driver get out of the truck and walk toward the Elks Club on Kaufman Drive.Police went to the Elks Club where they found Madden. An officer asked him if he had just left his truck on Shore Street but he did not respond, according to court documents.He smelled of alcohol and needed help walking out the door. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.178 percent, documents said, or more than twice the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.In addition to driving under the influence, Madden is charged with hit-and-run and careless driving.Monday — Police charged Dana L. Cuffman, 29, of Butler with driving under the influence of a controlled substance in connection with a two-vehicle crash April 6 in the 400 block of West Penn Street.Cuffman appeared impaired when police found her after she drove up onto a sidewalk and her vehicle ended up against another vehicle. She was arrested after failing field sobriety tests, and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.Toxicology tests later showed she had the anti-anxiety medication clonazepam and alprazolam in her system, court documents said.

Butler Twp PoliceTuesday — Police filed felony and other charges against an Allegheny County woman, who is accused of shoplifting $1,710 worth of merchandise from a store at the Butler Crossing shoplifting last week.The suspect, Corren D. Holman, 26, of Oakdale, allegedly put the items from Ulta Beauty in her purse. She is charged with a felony count of retail theft and a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property.Tuesday — Karen S. Verheyen, 48, of Butler was charged with first-degree misdemeanor retail theft after she was caught May 2 allegedly shoplifting $639 worth of merchandise at the Walmart at Butler Commons.1:22 p.m. May 11 — Mark J. Leitsch, 33, of Butler returned nearly $90 worth of paint, which he had allegedly stolen from Lowes, for a refund at the same store at Moraine Pointe Plaza. He is charged with theft by deception.3:42 p.m. May 10 — Marsha L. Ruby, 35, of Harmony was arrested after he was caught allegedly shoplifting $28 worth of merchandise at the Kohl’s store at the Butler Crossing shopping plaza. Ruby, who has a prior shoplifting arrest, is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.

State Police, FranklinSaturday — A vandal damaged a window screen at a man’s home in the 1600 block of Clinton Road in Irwin Township. The vandalism happened between 2:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to all police at 814-676-6596.

State Police, Kittanning4:03 p.m. Monday — A 17-year-old Kittanning girl, who police did not identify, did not stop after a wild hit-and-run crash in East Franklin Township.The teen lost control of her car and sideswiped another vehicle in the oncoming lane on Route 268 at Linde Road. The other driver, Chelsea Chruscik, 26, of Tarentum, Allegheny County, swerved her vehicle to avoid a possible head-on collision.The girl’s car, after hitting the passenger side of the other vehicle, jumped the curb and continued into a parking lot before returning to the road, crossing both lanes and traveling into another parking lot.Still, the car continued into a third parking lot at a gas station, where it hit a sign. The teen got the car back onto Route 268 and drove southbound.Kittanning police later found the teen and her car on Allegheny Avenue in Applewold. Borough officers detained her until troopers arrived and took her into custody. She faces unknown charges.3:34 p.m. Monday — A new truck bed tool chest, still in its original packaging, was found on Route 422 near the Graff Bridge in Manor Township. The owner can claim the property by calling police at 724-543-2011.

State Police, MercerTuesday — Surveillance video partially captured the theft of a sport utility vehicle from the Grove City Medical Center on North Broad Street in Pine Township, Mercer County. The suspect, an unknown male, later returned the same vehicle.Police are seeking help from the public in hopes of finding the thief. The orange Chrysler Pacifica, owned by a Grove City woman, was taken about 10:30 a.m. It was returned about 12:15 p.m.The SUV is accessorized with Tennessee Titans decals on the rear side windows and Tennessee Titans dice hanging on the rearview mirror. Anyone who saw the vehicle between 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Tuesday or anyone with information about the theft is asked to call police at 724-662-6162.Tuesday — A thief stole a white box trailer, a lawn tractor and counter tops from a Grove City woman’s home on Mercer Butler Pike in Liberty Township, Mercer County. The theft happened between 10 a.m. Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday.The 8-foot-by-10-foot trailer is described as having faded blue and tan decals and a large dent on the right front. The Gravely mower is red with a 4-foot deck. The Corian counter tops are tan.Tuesday — A chrome truck roll bar mounted with two lights on top of it was stolen from a man’s yard on North Liberty Road in Pine Township, Mercer County. Police said they have no suspects in the theft that occurred between 10 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday.4:33 p.m. May 10 — A Forest County woman and a young child were hurt when their car crashed down a 6-foot embankment on Jackson Center Polk Road in Worth Township, Mercer County.Jennifer S. Murray, 29, of Tionesta and the 5-year-old boy, who police did not identify, were both taken to the Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries. The woman was wearing a seat belt; the boy was in a child safety seat.The crash happened when Murray lost control of her car and struck a sign. The vehicle continued over the embankment before hitting a ditch and rolling over.Murray was cited for driving with a suspended license and disregarding traffic lanes.
