Jay A. Coursen

Jay A. Coursen, 53, of Sandy Lake, Pa., passed away Sunday at home, following a five-year battle with cancer.

Jay was born Sept. 17, 1962, in Grove City. He was the son of Jack D. and Norma Cross Coursen.

Jay graduated from Franklin High School. He married Lori Guthrie on June 1, 2002, and she survives.

Jay was most recently employed at Twice Loved Appliance in Harrisville. Jay did maintenance and also drove truck for the company. He also drove a bus for the Franklin Area School District for many years.

Jay was a member at the Moose Lodge 83 in Franklin. He was an avid outdoorsman. When his health permitted, he enjoyed hunting deer and going fishing.

His grandchildren brought him joy, and he loved to have them at the house and spending time with them. He and his family enjoyed going camping and having a good cookouts with him doing the cooking on the grill. He had recently taken interest in American history and watched the History Channel to learn about it.

Jay is survived by his wife, Lori of Sandy Lake; his children, Shane Coursen and his fiancee, Olympia Earnhardt, of Franklin and Brian Coursen and his fiancee, Natalie Grant, of Sharon; his daughter, Pamela Coursen and her boyfriend, Jon Orras, of West Middlesex; his father-in-law, Ronald Guthrie of Sandy Lake; his grandchildren, Joseph and Jayden Coursen, Nicole Earnhardt and Naomi Coursen; and several nieces and nephews.

Jay was preceded by his parents, Jack, who died July 14, 2002, and Norma, who died Jan. 18, 2013; his two brothers, Richard L. Coursen, who died Dec. 6, 1995, and Brian D. Coursen, who passed away Aug. 24, 1999; and his mother-in-law, Joyce Guthrie.

COURSEN — The family of Jay A. Coursen, who died Sunday, April 24, 2016, will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton St., Clintonville.A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Jerry Hanna, Jay's cousin, officiating.
