April 18 — McKenzie L. Scott, 29, of Mars was charged with DUI from a traffic stop April 11.

Thursday — Police filed stalking charges against Carmelina P. Vargo, 48, of Adams Township for her alleged actions outside Mars Middle School April 13.

Police have received multiple complaints since 2010 about harassing behavior directed at the Wetherholt family by the Vargo family, according to the criminal complaint filed by detective Mike Bailey. The alleged harassment is because of a dispute with the Mars Baseball Association.

On April 13, Mike Wetherholt reported that Vargo was staring at him from inside her car when he was walking out of the school’s stadium. She then allegedly followed him around the parking lot and attempted to follow his car as he left.

The alleged harassment has caused emotional distress to the Wetherholt family, according to the complaint.

Vargo faces one misdemeanor charge for stalking and two summary harassment charges.

Sunday — Matthew J. Kovocovsky, 45, of Butler was arrested after a domestic dispute during which he allegedly assaulted a former girlfriend and would not allow her to leave her home on the 600 block of North Main Street.

Kovocovsky also threatened to kill the victim, Charlene Zotter, who suffered minor injuries in the incident that lasted more than 10 hours.

The defendant was arraigned on charges of terroristic threats, unlawful restraint and simple assault, and placed in Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.

Zotter, who has a protection from abuse order against Kovocovsky, told police the suspect showed up at the home about 10 p.m. Saturday. Later that night, he allegedly threw her down and punched her in the face several times, according to court documents.

During the altercation, he is accused of covering her mouth with his hands, making it difficult for her to breathe. Zotter told police that the defendant threatened her life and repeatedly took away her cell phone when she tried to call 911, documents said.

She eventually managed to send a disturbing text message to her mother about 7 a.m. Sunday. The text read: “Don’t answer. In danger. Please pray that I can get him out of here with no more violence. Don’t call anyone yet for he might kill me. Please just pray!”

Kovocovsky left the home about noon. Police in speaking to Zotter, noted she had bruising and swelling to her head, face and mouth.

4:09 p.m. Thursday — Kristian Nelson, 22, no known address, was arrested on a pair of warrants after he was found passed out in the passenger seat of a car parked on the 300 block of North Sixth Avenue.

Police later searched Nelson’s back pack and found a Buck knife that had been reported stolen March 15. He was arraigned on a charge of receiving stolen property for having the knife, valued at $20.

Additionally, Nelson was arraigned on a separate charge of receiving stolen property, stemming from an arrest warrant obtained by Cranberry Township police in October.

The defendant was placed in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail. He also is being held on a bench warrant issued out of Allegheny County.

8:14 p.m. Saturday — Lori Ann Petanovich, 28, of Butler was arrested after she was allegedly failed to scan five items, valued at $19, at the self-checkout aisle at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Police said they also caught her with medication for which she did not have a prescription.

Petanovich, who has at least two prior shoplifting arrests, was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft and misdemeanor charges of illegal possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was placed in th Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.

8:02 a.m. Friday — Two youths, ages 13 and 15, got into a fight at Butler Intermediate High School. Both teens were later cited for disorderly conduct.

Friday — Mark A. Graham, Jr., 35, of Butler was charged with driving under the influence after police found him about 1:30 a.m. March 26 passed out at the wheel of a car at New Castle Road and the Point Plaza.

[naviga:h3]Cranberry Twp. Police[/naviga:h3]

3:51 p.m. Saturday — Police arrested Alexander Welter, 20, of West Sunbury and charged him in a series of crimes that started at Walmart on Route 19.

Welter allegedly used a razor blade to cut a security device off a Sony stereo valued at $96, which he then stole, according to court records.

He was pulled over by police shortly after leaving the store. Police allegedly discovered that his car was displaying a stolen registration plate and he allegedly had three empty stamp bags of heroin on his person.

He is charged with four misdemeanors: retail theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of fraudulent display documents and possessing instruments of a crime. He is in Butler County Prison on $7,500 bail.

1:42 p.m. April 17 — Brooke D. Williams, 30, of Chicora was arrested for an alleged retail theft at Walmart on Route 19.

She allegedly tried to walk out of the store with $45 in jewelry.

Williams has four previous retail theft convictions and had been banned from all Walmart stores in 2009.

She is charged with felony retail theft and misdemeanor defiant trespass.

She is in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.

[naviga:h3]Grove City Police[/naviga:h3]

3:05 p.m. Wednesday — Dylan W. Funk, 21, of Grove City was arrested after he led police on a car chase through the borough that did not end until he crashed on Route 208 near Barkeyville.

Funk was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude police, child endangerment, reckless endangerment, driving with a suspended license-DUI related, careless driving, reckless driving and a pair of stop sign violations.

He was placed in Mercer County Jail on $75,000 bail following arraignment.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Gibsonia[/naviga:h3]

13:25 p.m. Saturday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Dianna G. Breski, 32, of Worthington struck a deer on Interstate 79 in Plum, Allegheny County.
