James R. Bono

James R. Bono, 77, of Butler passed away March 3 at the Halifax Health-Hospice in Orange City, Fla.

Born Feb. 26, 1939, in Armstrong County, he was the son of the late Rocco and Twila Bono.

He was the president of the UFCW Union Local 23 in Pittsburgh, retiring from the position 18 years ago.

He also served in the Butler National Guard Reserves for 22 years, retiring with the rank of major.

Jim enjoyed golfing, cards and fishing. He was a member of the St. Fidelis Church in Meridian.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley (Swigart) Bono; four children, Randy Bono of Butler, Robin (Joe) Schrecengost of Rural Valley, Brian (Carrie) Bono of Penn Run and Jamie Graff of Kittanning; and seven grandchildren who brought him much joy.

He is also survived by two brothers, Herman (Peg) Bono of Mars and Edward (Diane) Bono of Indiana.

BONO — A funeral liturgy for James R. Bono, who died Thursday, March 3, 2016, will be at 11 a.m. April 6 at St. Fidelis of Meridian with the Rev. James Murphy as celebrant. Lunch will take place after the ceremony.Memorial contributions may be made to the Halifax Health-Hospice, 1625 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Orange City, FL 32763.
