Butler PoliceWednesday — Police charged Jessica M. Burka, 30, of Lyndora in the September break-in of a home on White Avenue. She is accused of flipping over furniture, breaking window blinds and door trim, and scattering clothing in the incident on or about Sept. 18, according to court documents.Burka is charged with burglary, trespass and criminal mischief.12:23 p.m. Saturday — Shayna M. McDowell, 30, of Butler suffered an apparent heroin overdose at the Kmart store at Pullman Square. Medics were treating her on the floor of the bathroom when police arrived, court documents said. She eventually regained consciousness after given the opioid overdose reversal drug.A search of McDowell’s purse, police said, turned up four empty stamp bags of suspected heroin. After awakening, documents said, she admitted shooting up four bags of heroin.McDowell, who was later taken to Butler Memorial Hospital, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.

Butler Twp Police4:58 p.m. Tuesday — Jessica Clark, 25, of Butler was hurt when she lost control of her car on the wet road and it struck an embankment and flipped onto its roof. Clark complained of minor pain after the wreck.10:40 a.m. Monday — No one was injured but a utility pole was sheared off in a one-vehicle crash on Evans City Road at the rear of the VA Butler Healthcare facility.The wreck happened when Gregory Riley, 46, of Lawrence County swerved his landscaping dump truck to avoid hitting a minivan that abruptly stopped.The truck slid into the utility pole, breaking it off and causing a power outage in the area of New Castle Road for at least two hours. Traffic signals were inoperable during that time.Police remind motorists to treat any malfunctioning traffic signal as a stop sign.

State Police, Butler9:11 a.m. Wednesday — A tractor-trailer caught fire on Interstate 79 in Muddy Creek Township. The driver, Ethan N. Stolp, 30, of Canastota, N.Y., was able to get out unharmed after several wheels ignited.Wednesday — Someone broke into a man’s home on West Liberty Road in West Liberty. Police did not immediately say if any property was stolen in the burglary that happened between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.6:45 a.m. Tuesday — A 16-year-old Cabot girl lost control of her car and struck a tree on Becker Road just east of Great Belt Road in Jefferson Township. Police did not identify the girl, who faces a ticket for disregarding traffic lanes.Tuesday — Abagael L. Hempfling, 18, of Chicora was charged with last week’s assault of a 43-year-old man in Donegal Township. The teen is accused of biting Kevin Kohl’s arm about 9 p.m. Friday at a house in the 1200 block of Chicora Road.Hempfling was gone by the time police got to the house. She is charged with simple assault and harassment.4:10 p.m. Tuesday — Lyndsay K. Book, 28, of Cranberry Township lost control of her car on the wet road and struck an embankment on Mahood Road just west of Thompsontown Road in Clay Township. The car rolled onto its roof.West Sunbury and Unionville volunteer firefighters assisted at the scene. Police cited Book for driving at an unsafe speed and driving with improper tires.5:26 p.m. Monday — A 65-year-old Concord Township woman lost more than $1,000 in an IRS telephone scam.The woman told police that someone posing as an IRS official called her home and claimed she owed $72,000 in back taxes. If she didn’t pay $1,000 on Monday, the caller warned, she would lose her home.The victim followed the scammer’s instructions and sent $1,090 via West Union. The following day, the woman called the IRS to verify her debt and learned that she did owe any back taxes.1:50 a.m. Saturday — A 17-year-old Butler boy allegedly attacked a state trooper at Butler Memorial Hospital in Butler Township. The youth, who police did not identify, was being treated in the emergency room when he became combative.When Trooper Robert Rottman tried to restrain the boy, he kicked the officer in the chest with both feet.Police said they charged the suspect in juvenile court with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment.Sept. 18 — A burglar stole a gun from a home on Jamisonville Road in Center Township. The break-in happened between Sept. 14 and 18.Sept. 3 — Someone shot a Shepherd mix dog and left the body near the tracks in woods near Route 8 in Slippery Rock Township. The dog, owned by a 33-year-old Slippery Rock man, was shot Sept. 2 or 3. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.9:25 p.m. Aug. 28 — Melissa Anne Lewis, 23, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 8 in Middlesex Township.Aug. 8 — Three bicycles were stolen from a home on Blue Jay Drive in Connoquenessing Township. The bicycles, which were taken Aug. 7 or 8, are described as a purple Huffy mountain bike, a white and pink bike, and a bright yellow bike with an attached clock radio. Anyone with information is asked to call police

State Police, ClarionWednesday — An undetermined amount of money was stolen from two safes in a burglary at the Rimersburg Veterans of Foreign Wars post home in Madison Township. The break-in happened between 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday.Police suspect the burglars got inside in back of the building and forced open both safes. The investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 814-226-1710.

State Police, Kittanning10:40 p.m. Tuesday — Heavy downpours and ponding on the road were blamed for Heather L. Horm, 39, of Sarver losing control of her car and hitting a guardrail on Route 28 in Harrison Township, Allegheny County.5:54 p.m. Tuesday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Sara E. Yoho, 27, of Sarver struck an embankment and flipped over on rain-soaked Route 28 in Harrison Township. The SUV rolled onto its right side and roof before landing on its left side. Police said Yoho was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
