2:16 p.m. Friday — Butler police were called to a home on the 500-block of West Cunningham Street for a 1½-year-old boy with a facial injury.

After an investigation, police charged Lucas T. Safranek, 20, of Butler with simple assault and endangering the welfare of children. He allegedly slapped the child while taking him for a walk.

Police said Safranek denies hitting the boy and claims an unknown Hispanic man driving a white vehicle hit the toddler at the intersection of West New Castle Street, after Safranek and the man got into a verbal confrontation.

Police said they interviewed multiple residents in the area who were outside at the time and no one could corroborate Safranek’s story.

According to online court documents, Safranek is in Butler County Prison after failing to post a $25,000 bond.

10:18 a.m. Monday — Police said Judith Weiland, 72, of Butler was driving west on Whitestown Road when her vehicle rear-ended a vehicle driven by Gary Ray, 45, of Butler, who was waiting to turn left onto Young Avenue. Police said Weiland was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of a minor injury and both vehicles were towed from the scene.

8:19 p.m. Tuesday — Patricia B. Charles, 53, of Lyndora was charged with felony retail theft after being stopped by Walmart loss prevention for under-ringing $71.73 in merchandise. Police said Charles was taken to Butler County Prison to await arraignment.

1:07 a.m. July 16 — Police said Cody Delaney, 18, of Wampum, Lawrence County, was driving on the ramp from New Castle Road to Route 422 West when he lost control of his Dodge Charger and hit an embankment. Police said Delaney and a 15-year-old passenger were not injured. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

2:15 a.m. Wednesday — Police said Lastene R. Yarrington, 48, of Connoquenessing was driving south on Interstate 79 and getting off the road at exit 99 when she fell asleep at the wheel of her Chevrolet Camaro and hit a guard rail. Police said no one was injured and Yarrington was cited for driving on road laned for traffic.

1:38 a.m. Wednesday — Between 1:17 a.m. and 1:38 a.m., someone “turfed” Soccer Field 3 on Knoch Road at South Butler School District using two school district vehicles. Anyone with information should contact state police at the Butler barracks.

Tuesday — Between July 14 and Tuesday someone broke into a home on the 500 block of Star Grille Road in Summit Township. Police said nothing appears to have been taken.

7:15 p.m. Tuesday — Police charged Brandy Williams, 29, and William Harris II, 27, both of Chicora, with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, criminal trespass and drug possession after they allegedly burglarized two homes on Oak Road Tuesday night.

Police said the stolen items — a basketball hoop and tools — were returned to their owners and Williams was found to be in possession of prescription medication that was improperly packaged and not hers. Both were committed to Butler County Prison awaiting further court action.

7:40 p.m. Sunday — Karen L. Risinger, 29, of Emlenton was driving south on Jefferson Street in Summit Township when she rear-ended a Honda CR-V driven by David W. Frengel, 67, of Butler. Both drivers suffered minor injuries but refused EMS transport and Risinger was cited for following too closely.

7:10 p.m. Sunday — A 28-year-old Renfrew man will be charged with drug possession after being treated by Butler EMS for a drug overdose on the 100 block of Reiber Road in Connoquenessing Township and found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.

10:30 p.m. July 14 — Someone broke into a shed and trailer in the area of Perry Highway in Muddy Creek Township, and stole $990 worth of snowmobile equipment and tools. Anyone with information should contact police at 724-284-8100.

8:49 p.m. Saturday — Police said drug charges are pending against John Johnson, 20, of Greenville, Mercer County after a traffic stop on Route 108 in Worth Township, and a vehicle search turned up drug paraphernalia.

1:05 p.m. July 15 — Ronald D. Mooar, 34, of Ada, Mich., will be charged with possession of a controlled substance after an incident on Interstate 79 northbound, near mile marker 85 in Jackson Township.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Kittanning[/naviga:h3]

July 17 — Police are investigating allegations that a 34-year-old man groped two juvenile girls while walking in the area of Rebecca Street in Kittanning.

3:10 a.m. May 16 — Police charged Kirsty Johnston, 23, of Worthington, with DUI after a traffic stop on Route 268 in East Franklin Township. Police said Johnston was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

12:40 p.m. Sunday — Police arrested Jason D. Como, 31, of Lake Drive, after he was found with a syringe and a pill for which he did not have a prescription. Police said Como was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
