8:25 p.m. Tuesday — A 17-year-old girl was caught with four prescription pills in her purse after she allegedly shoplifted a package of pretzels at Friedman's supermarket in the Greater Butler Mart on Route 8 South.Police did not identify the girl, who is charged in juvenile court with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and retail theft.
Thursday — Police charged Leonard L. Baker Jr., 29, of Mercer for writing a bad check on a closed account to a North Street business July 26.
5:28 p.m. Thursday — A car driven by Kerry S. Voland, 43, of New Castle and a sport utility vehicle driven by David J. Kroha, 32, of Harrisville collided at Route 208 and Old Mercer Road in Wilmington Township.Voland, who was wearing a seat belt, was treated at Jameson Hospital in New Castle for serious injuries. Police said she was cited for making an improper left turn.
1:50 p.m. Thursday — Four people were injured, three seriously, in a head-on crash on Route 208 in Pine Township.Both drivers, Shirley L. Walter, 63, and Nicole M. Hey, 22, suffered serious injuries. Walter was flown by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Hey was taken by ambulance to Grove City Medical Center.A police news release did not provide addresses for the drivers.A girl and boy, whom police did not identify, riding in Hey's car were hurt. The girl was flown to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with serious injuries; the boy was treated at Grove City Medical Center with moderate injuries. Both children were secured in car seats.
