LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

[naviga:h3]They died for this?[/naviga:h3]

This isn’t the country I grew up in.

I’ve often wondered if those GIs on the troop transports at Normandy in the early morning hours of June 6, 1944, would have gotten into the Higgins boats if they knew what American culture and society would become.

God save the United States of America.

Joseph Marmo Cheswick[naviga:h3]Lack of evidence[/naviga:h3]The district attorney’s decision to drop charges against Luis Quinones (“Sexual assault charges dropped in case at prison,” Dec. 7, Page 1) left me speechless. The DA’s office said it was due to the lack of evidence; so they are saying the investigation by their own chief detective, Chuck Barger, was without merit, not to mention the victims’ testimony.Had this been the alleged molestation of a woman, the #MeToo movement would have been all over this. As it stands, however, this individual is free to prey upon others and not face any criminal charges.I believe it’s high time for a shakeup in the Butler County District Attorney’s Office. It just seems that the DA’s office went out of its way to accommodate this individual. The buck stops here. There needs to be a citizen review board as it appears we can no longer rely on the criminal justice system of Butler County.
