19 vo-tech students attend
Butler County Vocational-Technical School students were invited to participate in the second year of ROVA, which is the Rotary Outstanding Vocational Awards for 2004.
Ten Rotary Clubs from Butler County paid the students' tuition costs, allowing the 19 juniors to enjoy a leadership camp at McKeever Environmental Center near Sandy Lake on Dec. 10 and 11.
The leadership development camp was the creation of Mary "Skip" Sample, a former Rotary District 7280 director, who wanted a training experience for vocational-technical school students.
The juniors were chosen by a vo-tech faculty committee to participate in the two-day/overnight event based on their potential for leadership and their service to their communities, peers, and schools.
The activities at the camp emphasized effective communication in leadership, ethical leadership, time management skills, problem-solving skills, conflict resolution skills, essentials of volunteer leadership, and self-confidence development exercises.
The vocational-technical school thanks the Rotary clubs and recognizes the students who benefited from the ROVA experience. They are:
