CRANBERRY TWP — With space at a premium inside the administrative offices at the township’s municipal center, officials are taking steps to evaluate how to better utilize the area.

During a regular meeting Thursday of the township supervisors, the board voted to spend $35,000 with JLL, a real estate services company, to complete a comprehensive review of that space.

According to Dan Santoro, assistant township manager, JLL staff will look at how the various departments work and interact. The company also will evaluate the physical space to see if it is being used appropriately, and what changes could be made. This includes deciding if the offices have enough meeting rooms, conference rooms and if the offices are sized appropriately for their use.

“It’s going to be looking at how we can be more efficient,” Santoro said, adding there will be input from staff in the evaluation.

Jerry Andree, township manager, said the company is performing similar work at Westinghouse in Cranberry. While the company has a Pittsburgh office, the specialists for this type of project come from the Boston office. Due to the ongoing Westinghouse project, there is no extra expense to transport them to Cranberry, Andree said.

“We are crowded, and we’re running out of space,” Andree said. “Before I ask you guys for another big chunk of change to add space, are we using that space wisely?”

The project will begin in early October with about two days of initial evaluation. In total, the process will take a few weeks, Santoro said.

In other business Thursday, supervisors approved an intermunicipal liquor license transfer for the planned Fresh Thyme Farmers Market in the Cranberry Commons Mall on Route 228.

The store would occupy the former HH Gregg site, and would have a 32-seat cafe where alcohol would be sold. The store is expected to open in 2019.

Supervisors also approved the expansion of a parking lot next to Crossroads Community Church near Peters Road. A small building will be torn down on the property to allow for the expanded lot, which will be level with the current lot.

The next meeting of the township supervisors is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in the banquet room of the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course.
