Moniteau High receives $2,000 grant
Moniteau High School has received a $2,000 grant from Erie Insurance and its Lookin' Out program to promote safe driving among students.
"Car crashes are the top killer of U.S. teens," said Erie Insurance agent Scott Eshenbaugh of the Eshenbaugh Insurance Agency, who is partnering with the students at Moniteau to implement the program. "In fact, teen drivers are involved in twice as many crashes as other drivers."
Lookin' Out promotes safe driving through positive peer influence. Teens create a series of events and activities addressing risk factors such as lack of seat belt use, speeding, driving under the influence and distractions such as loud music and cell phone use.
Using grant funds, the committee has planned a White Out Day to represent the average number of teens killed each day in America as a result of car crashes; a safe driving slogan contest; mock crash, to show what can happen at the scene of a car crash; and a visit from the Lookin' Out Safety Bug, a mechanically engineered car that simulates impaired driving.
